BMW | SPECIAL KETAMINE

BMW K-series

..No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K
Just like I swallowed half my stash
I never ever want to crash
No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K
Now you're back and dont demand
I'm on sinking sand
Gravity
No escaping gravity
Gravity
No escaping... not for free
I fall down... hit the ground
Make a heavy sound
Every time you seem to come around..

BMW R80 Cafe Racer

Who can resist the beauty of BMW's boxer engine? Their unorthodox horizontal head configuration and shaft drive has always intrigued me. There's no denying that Boxer BMWs are bulky looking bikes but with some smart customisation they can be transformed in to sleek looking Cafe Racers. This R80 is the work of Kev Hill from Kevils Speed Shop and Kev seems to have stumbled upon just the right formula to build one such Cafe Racer.

Kevils Speed Shop is based in the "English Riviera" in Paigton, Devon. Out of his workshop owner Kev Hill has been building his own breed of custom BMW motorcycles but it's this bike named "Joker" that really caught my eye. The '83 BMW R80 was a commissioned build for Oily Rag Racing to promote their vintage clothing brand and is currently touring various shows and events in the UK.

The white and orange paint scheme works beautifully with the tan leather seat and the raw metal finish of that gorgeous boxer motor. Removing the airbox and tucking all the electrics away has opened up the frame to reduce some of the R80's aforementioned "bulk" and one of the best wasp tail cowls I've seen on a BMW makes this bike look darn fast. Lowered bars and rear sets upgrade the ridering position and a simplified instrument cluster keeps everything at around tank level which is just how I like it. Nothing over the top and everything as it should be. Lovely.

Kev can build you an affordable retro racer like this starting from around £4,000. If you happen to drop by his workshop you can ask him why this bike was named the Joker...be sure to let us know!

1954 BMW Rennsport RS54

This 1954 BMW Rennsport RS54 was one of the first racing motorcycle designs to come out of Germany in the post-war period, the FIM had very recently re-allowed German machines into their events and the engineers at BMW wasted no time turning out some remarkable new two-wheelers.
The BMW Rennsport RS54 was a 130kg (286lb) DOHC racing machine that produced 45hp from its boxer-twin, the front suspension was made under license from the Englishman Ernie Earles, whose design was just about the most advanced available at the time.
It’s thought that only 24 were built between 1953 and 1954 though this number has been called into question, it isn’t known how many RS54s are still around today but most estimates put the number at somewhere between 15 and 18. This particular example is due to hit the auction block with Bonhams at the upcoming Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction, the estimated sale price is between $145,000 and $165,000 USD.
Check out the official lot listing here or read about the duckbilled BMX RS54 we featured last month here.

BMW R100RS Scrambler “Sarge”

This 1980 BMW R100RS Scrambler nicknamed ”Sarge” was built by the talented BMW motorcycle custom house Kevil’s Speed Shop. Kevil’s is run by a friendly Brit named Kevin Hill, he founded the shop and has been an avid lover of motorcycles since his father took him to the Bristol Motorcycle Show in the late-70s.
The original 1980 BMW R100RS runs a classic 2 cylinder, 4-stroke, Boxer engine producing 70hp and 76 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through 5-speed transmission via shaft drive and the bike has a total, stock weight of 230kgs.
This scrambler version of the R100RS has seen some well thought-out modifications including a custom 2-into-1 exhaust, a gun-barrel style silencer, a blacked engine with brushed fins, a vintage leather seat and contrasting grips, chunky tires and Ascot green pearl metallic paint.
So far as motorcycles go this is exactly the sort of bike you’d want in the garage when the aliens arrive and we all have to take off into the mountains, that BMW bower engine will still be running reliably in a hundred years time and there isn’t much that can’t be fixed on the bike with a hammer and some duct tape.
Visit Kevil’s Speed Shop here.

BMW R75/5 Café Racer

BMW motorcycles from the ’60s and ’70s provide a somewhat unexpected platform for café racer conversions, the bikes (largely) weren’t designed as speed demons but with a few relatively minor tweaks they metamorphosize into some of the best looking café bikes out there.
This BMW R75/5 is a great example of the genre with the classic BMW crankcase, horizontally prominent air-cooled cylinders, gatored front forks and that unmistakable, ’70s BMW fuel tank.
The conversion to café racer only happened recently at the hands of talented bike builders MotoCafé, they stripped the engine and rebuilt it with new seals and gaskets, reworked the head, wrapped the exhaust, added a Corbin seat, new cables, new powder-coated rims, added new BMW badges, a new battery, new Goodyear tires and a added significant number of other, more minor features.
All in the bike looks like one of the better BMW café bikes out there, if you like it and have an understanding wife, you can check out the eBay auction here.

BMW R100/7 ‘Lucky 13’ by Blitz Motorcycles

They say good things come in threes, so with that in mind, here’s our third BMW motorcycle this week. Dubbed the ‘Lucky 13′ this BMW R100/7 is the latest build out of the garages of Blitz Motorcycles, a France based custom motorcycle garage with a penchant for cafe racers, scramblers and very unusual paint jobs.
Having started life as a slightly worse for wear, stock BMW R100/7, this bike was acquired by Blitz last year. As is usual with builds like this, it was stripped back to it’s individual components, many of the older parts were discarded and replaced with new and then it was carefully put back together.
Blitz opted for a hybrid café racer/scrambler feel with the design of this bike, the wrapped pea-shooter pipes and low slung handlebars feature alongside higher rear suspension, a Lucky #13 number plate and front fork gaiters, giving the bike a cafe-scrambler feel that leaves me wondering why this style isn’t more popular with custom motorcycle builders.
If you’d like to see more of Blitz’s work, hit the link here.
